Technique Day ……. grab the cling film!!!

Morning everyone,

Happy Thursday!  It’s me again ….. LindyLou, with a Technique Day post for you.

Those of you who read yesterday’s post from me, will have already seen a glimpse of what I’m showing you today ….. I used it for one of the backgrounds.

I’m going to be using the English Cottage Acrylic Paints, in the brand new metallic shades,  to create icy looking backgrounds that will be perfect to use on your Christmas/Festive creations.  It’s a nice simple technique to use ….. you just have to be a little patient and allow for some drying time.

Yesterday I’d used the gorgeous Sleeping Beauty shade from the new range of metallic colours along with the Snow White (my favourite!!) to create the background for my stamped image

082

But, if blue isn’t your colour, don’t worry ….. it works just as well with other shades.

You will need :-

White cardstock; empty spritzer bottle;  IndigoBlu English Cottage acrylic paints ….. a colour of your choice plus the Snow White; clean water; cling film

1.    Place a small amount of acrylic paint, in your chosen base colour, onto a craft mat.  Spritz well with clean water, mix and then paint over your white cardstock

0012.  Put some of the Snow White paint into a clean spritzer bottle (the tip of a spatula is more than enough) and add some clean water.  Shake well to mix then spritz over the painted cardstock.  While it’s still wet, cover the card with a piece of cling film.  Scrunch the film over the card ….. you’ll see the mica collect in the creases

002Set this aside to dry completely.  It’s a good idea to do a few sheets at a time, then you’ll have them in your stash to use as and when you need them.

3.  Once it’s dry, carefully remove the cling film  ……. and you’ll be left with a fabulous shimmery pattern over your card ….. here’s the blue version

080and this is the same technique using the pink ….. how pretty is that?!

003How you make use of it is up to you …… stamp directly onto it as I did with yesterday’s card …..

084

Use it with your dies or punches ……. Or use it to mat and layer, and mount your stamped images onto ……..

I think it turns a simple card into something a little bit special.

Another way of using the white metallic paint is to create what’s sometimes called the ‘faux mother of pearl’ technique.

This time you paint the white shade on to the card first ……. using a scrunched up piece of cellophane, or cling film, to apply the paint.

Dab the paint lightly over the card leaving some of the plain white cardstock showing through

006

Once it’s dry add some colour over the top using Distress inks …….  the white metallic paint will act as a resist

007giving you that nice pearlescent finish.

008

See ….. I told you it was easy, why not give it a try.

Thanks for popping by ….. enjoy the rest of the week and have a great weekend.  If any of you are off to Ally Pally (I’m so jealous!) don’t forget to pop by the IndigoBlu stand and say ‘Hi’ to Kay and the team.

Cheerio until next time …..

LindyLou xx
