Mixed Media Canvas

Hi everyone Clare here,

Today I have for you one of my mixed media canvas’s. I really love how this one turned out, I love the grungy look to it and think it really compliments the photo of me hugging my kitty when she was sick. It was the end of a long road of illness for Tigeress so this photo holds a special place in my memory.

First I began by creating a textured background with tissue and vintage text, I then stamped and flaked in the background. Most of this gets covered up in the end but it adds to the depth of the piece.

I then layered up some of the altered eago’s and some paper flowers from my stash. Covered it all in the fabulous English Cottage Acrylic paints, then added my photo. I dribbled on a wash of a mix of brown, red and orange paint to create that rusty steampunky look.

The final touch was to dry brush all over with a mixture of light colours and metallics to highlight all the fabulous Alter Eago pieces.

I hope you like it as much as I do

I am running a workshop tomorrow, (Saturday the 9th August) at HQ doing a 12X12 mixed media canvass, if you aren’t doing anything then why not pop along, its only £20! Bargain!

Thanks for visiting!

  1. This is absolutely gorgeous Clare. Love that rusted/aged feel and the hint of flake. Jenny x
