With Wings. .

Hope you’ve had a good weekend, it was a mixed bag weatherwise wasn’t it!  I got caught out a few times, mind you, we were in a field at a VW festival this weekend.  It got a bit boggy!

This morning I thought I’d share a canvas, that is possibly still in the process of being made, but only because I haven’t glued things down, and can’t  quite make up my mind. . .

You will have to tell me what you think!

I started with a 7 x 5 inch canvas, and some cardboard wings from the Indigoblu shop (not sure these are on the website, just call up and ask for them if you would like some).  I painted it all in Townhouse Teal.

I wanted an old aged distressed look, and wondered how the new metallic Goldfinger paint would mix with Kroma Crackle.  The answer was, beautifully! I left it for a couple of days to crack,  it went really old gold looking once dry and sealed with Slap it on.  (Slap it on is a matte medium, which seals paint between coats, or over your artwork to protect it, and is also used for the tissue stamping technique, this stuff is fab!).

I did the same with the mdf folk heart, painted in townhouse teal then added the kroma and gold mix over the top.  Both were then dry brushed with a bit more gold (and the wings), and some hot cocoa (paint, not the drink!)  to distress them further.  The Cog’s Altered Ego’s were painted with Townhouse Teal, Hot Cocoa and Goldfinger, to make them look rusty and slightly verdigris.

I also just coated the metal embellishments with a bit of hot cocoa paint, to age them further.

So, you will have to let me know, cogs on the wings, or not?  They aren’t stuck down yet you see, I’m cheating!  This piece is for myself, so I’m spending a little more time over it, and the key needs to be attached to the bottom, possibly with some beads too.  I’d love to hear your ideas!

There is no stamping here either, and I just wondered whether a little vintage flourish might creep in to the kroma background. . .

So apologies for my photo’s still being on my work mat, but you know how it is when you still want to play!

Have a lovely week, and I’ll bring you the totally finished pic next monday, along with something new.  Let’s see how it evolves!

Best Wishes,

Nikki K.

  1. I absolutely love it how it is – I personally don’t think it needs anything else, specially if you are going to add the beads at the bottom for the key xx

  2. This is looking fab Nikki, I am loving it. Can I suggest no flourishes as it may detract from the main focal which looks great. Regarding the cogs I love the placement on the heart but find the wing placement a little cemetric for the piece, how about if they flowed accross the wings coming out from behind the heart from bottom right to top left…. l hope you don’t mind the suggestion :0)…….Hugs Lisa.xx p.s fabulous crackling!
