A little ‘light’ crafting …….

Morning everyone,

Happy Wednesday!  I’m back on the Isle of Man this week (sigh!) ….. the holiday’s over, and it’s all back to normal …. for a few days at least!   This time next week I’ll be throwing the last few bits into the suitcase again ready to fly off on another little holiday.   We’re going a bit further afield this time though …….. LAS VEGAS here we come!  And it’s going to be  HOT!!

So, as you can imagine, the old craft room is a little busy this week …. I’m trying to get everything sorted again before we go.

I’ve got a little home decor project for you today …….. a frosted glass lamp. Inspired by a fab workshop I attended some time ago, run by a very good friend of mine …. Sally-Jo!   It’s quick and easy, doesn’t cost the earth (my lamp came from that well know Scandinavian furniture store but I’m sure there are similar ones elsewhere) and it can be done in any colour combination you like, so that it’s perfect for any room in the house.

I’ve also made a matching card, ideal if it’s a gift for someone.

The lamp has simply been stamped with  the gorgeous IndigoBlu Big Butterfly and the Dinky Flutterby stamps, using Stazon inks.  I used Timber Brown and the nice bright Cactus Green …. one of the colours from the new(ish)  Midi range of ink pads.  There’s some gorgeous colours to choose from in this range ….. I’m sure there’s one to suit your home.

Just remember …. because you’re stamping onto glass, the Stazon ink will take a little while to dry fully.  I stamped over two sides of the lamp, then left it to dry overnight before stamping on the others.

The card took a little longer than the lamp to make ……. I used the same Big Butterfly stamp and kept the same colour combination.  And the finished card size is 6×6 inches

I stamped the butterfly onto an old dictionary page …… luckily I had the page with the word ‘butterfly’ on it so it was perfect for the job.

I stamped the butterfly directly onto the page, making sure not to stamp over the definition …… I didn’t want the text to show through the image completely so I painted over the inside of the butterfly with some White Gee-Sso Good mixed with a little water.

Once the Gee-Sso was dry, I stamped the butterfly again directly over the top of the original image and embossed it with a clear embossing powder ……

I did use a stamp positioner to make sure I got the image in the right place!

I added a touch of colour to the butterfly using pencils,  and highlighted the definition with a co-ordinating marker.

I added a touch of Vintage Photo Distress ink around the edges, and actually torn the book page to give an aged look ……

The ink splats you can see around the edge, and on the white card underneath, are from the IndigoBlu Ledger Background, and have been stamped using Sepia Versafine.

As always I’ve added something from the design on the inside of the card …….

I’ve mat and layered to match the front (green and brown cardstock), and I’ve stamped the Dinky Flutterby just off the edge, using the green Stazon again.  The words are from Grand Tour III …. the perfect finishing touch!

Here’s a quick look at the lamp switched on ……

A nice summer themed addition to any room in the house.

If you didn’t want to do a lamp, you could take the same idea and decorate vases, or candle votives.  You could even stamp onto a mirror.

Hope you like it ……. I didn’t get to keep it long, it’s now on it’s way to my daughter’s lounge, after she spotted it yesterday when she dropped the little one off.   Good job I’d taken the pictures!

Thanks for popping by ….. enjoy the rest of your day.

Cheerio until next time
