Flutterby ……. Butterfly

Happy Wednesday folks!

Hope you’re well and enjoying some sunshine.  Has summer finally arrived …. enjoy it while it lasts I say!

I’ve got a bit of a ‘summery’ card for you today using the IndigoBlu Big Butterfly stamp ……

I do like BIG stamps, you can really make a statement  with them, and they’re also great for doing home decor projects.

There’s a lot of pictures and wall hangings around at the moment which are images of single butterflies, or dragonflies, moths and even bees, in a simple frame, with not a lot of colour, so they go with any decor.   One large high street store (M&S …. oooops!  I’m sure there are other retailers out there too!)  has a fabulous set of three that I spotted last weekend, and then thought …… I could make something like that!  And here it is …. on a greeting card, but you could just as easily do this in a wooden frame and hang it on the wall.

The finished size is 8×8, but you could go bigger if your doing a frame or canvas,  the butterfly stamp is large enough to take it.

I started out by making the frame from  a piece of black cardstock, then using the Vintage Flourish stamp I added some decoration to the corners

I stamped using the Flitter Glu and added Chariot of Fire Mega Flakes.

Next, I cut a piece of ivory cardstock slightly smaller than the frame, and added some colour using Distress inks – Tea Dye, Vintage Photo and a touch of Scattered Straw.

I then marked where the frame would sit and stamped the beautiful Big Butterfly so that it would be across the bottom corner.  I used Onyx Black Versafine ink and then embossed it with a clear powder.

I made myself a mask for the butterfly, covered the image and stamped the background using the much loved IndigoBlu Script stamp.  This is such a useful stamp to have in your stash …. it’s available on it’s own or, it also comes as a smaller version, in the fabulous Sarah’s Choice, another really handy set to have as you’ll see later……

You can see I’ve added a few ink splats too.  You can do this by flicking ink directly onto your project which I do like to do occasionally, but on this particular one I’ve used a Tim Holtz stencil, and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Using a stencil you have control over where to place the splats …. just flicking the ink  you’re never really sure where the splats will end up …..   and it can get a bit messy.  It’s fun though!

I added some colour to the butterfly using the Distress inks and a little water

Using foam pads I attached the frame over the top of the butterfly, and mat the whole thing onto another piece of black card before attaching it to the front of an 8×8 cream cardblank.

To finish off I stamped one of the words from Sarah’s Choice, mat and layered it and attached it onto the frame

And of course finished off the inside to match

I masked off an area and added the same colours as used on the front.   Stamped the matching Dinkie Flutterfly stamp slightly off the edge, and added the word definition from Sarah’s Choice to match the word used on the front.

Hope you like it.

Don’t forget it’s the start of a new IndigoBlu Challenge today too ……. Monochromatic is the theme.   Why not join in the fun this month.  There’s loads of inspiration over on the challenge blog to get you started, and of course there’s a fab prize  for the winner.  We’ve added something extra too starting this month …. oooohh!   Hop over to the Challenge Blog to find out more.

Thanks for popping by today ….. enjoy the rest of your week.  It’s the start of the 2014 TT Races this weekend on the island.  We’ve got Practice Week starting Saturday so things are going to get a little busy around here.  Lets hope the weather stays good.

Have a great weekend

Cheerio until next time
